Questions about the Galapagos Islands

How do I get to the Galapagos islands?

Getting to the Galápagos Islands is relatively straightforward, but it requires some planning because the islands are remote and protected. All international travelers must first arrive in mainland Ecuador. There are two main international airports to choose from: Quito or Guayaquil. Most travelers prefer Guayaquil if they want a shorter domestic flight to the islands. Quito is also fine, but the domestic flight is longer.

Can I reach the Galapagos islands by boat?

There are no international ferries from mainland Ecuador to the Galápagos. All visitors must fly in from Quito or Guayaquil. Traveling by private boat or yacht is possible, but it requires careful planning, permits, and can take several days at sea.
